At the “Glove Cities Veterinary Hospital” in Gloversville, USA, a veterinarian is amazed. Just a few minutes ago she took off the unloved protective collar of a German Shepherd. Now the veterinarian speaks to the animal's owner and gives him the final information for further recovery. Instead, veterinarian Thomas Hamilton takes care of a dog whose paw is injured.

Meanwhile, it happens: The dog curiously sniffs the neck brace that is on the ground - and spontaneously sticks his head back in. After injuries or operations: Wounds heal better with a collar

A neck collar is often annoying for dogs. In the apartment, the four-legged friends sometimes bump into furniture or doors because the cone shape protrudes quite far from their heads. Nevertheless, the dogs can move around normally with the collar on, so their well-being is not impaired. On the contrary: from a health perspective, the neck brace offers a major advantage. After an injury (e.g. dog bite) or operation (e.g. castration), it ensures that the wound heals in peace and that the animal patient does not lick or nibble on it. Since the dog wears it around the clock for the duration of the treatment, the cone collar must fit well - neither too loose nor too tight so as not to cause chafing. It is best for owners to have it adjusted by a veterinarian.

In practice, dogs are usually given a cuff made of transparent plastic. This is light and easy to clean. Other models on the market are made of soft foam or can be filled with air.
